FRIDAY FOLDER mable campus may 6

SHOW & TELL
Photo of the Week: Parents, students, teachers, and visitors enjoy the Enrollment Celebration Barbecue held on April 27

Enrollment Celebration Barbecue
The Mable Campus was filled with excitement on Wednesday, April 27, as families and visitors enjoyed a picnic-style lunch with hot dogs and snacks. Families took time to visit with their children on the field, chatted with friends, and enjoyed a perfect spring day. The picnic was a wonderful opportunity to share our appreciation for the continued trust our families have in us, and we are extremely grateful to them for allowing us to achieve our enrollment goal. Many thanks also to the Fairmont Parent Association for providing delicious snow cones, and to Food Management for catering such tasty treats.

Boys Soccer
The JH Boys Soccer team just finished up a very successful season. They made it all the way to the semifinals of the Tri-Way League where they fell short to Anaheim Hills 2-0.It was a remarkable season for the boys because they finished with a record of 7-5 while playing with 10 players for 10 out of the 12 games. The defense was held together by goalie Nico Ament and defenders Matthew Tuinstra, Ejay Cho, Brando Padilla, and Nomin Park. They only gave up 9 goals in 12 games, which is a wonderful accomplishment. Through the midfield we were led by Shawn Cho, our playmaker, Alfred Mustafa, Justin Lee, Tarek Sahyoun, and Ken Li. Our leading goal scorer, Kareem Latif, tallied 16 goals for the season and was our engine during our play-off run. I have been coaching soccer for over 10 years, and I have not been more proud of a group of boys. Their heart and determination was second to none, and it was a true privilege to coach these young men.

Junior High Spirit Week
As the year begins to wind down, ASB events pick up. After a relaxing spring break, Junior High students jumped into the events of Spirit Week. ASB planned everything, and this year it was all about the movies. Each day, students competed to earn spirit points for their homeroom by dressing up to the according theme of that day. On Friday, April 29, homerooms competed against each other for a chance to steal the trophy from Mrs. Lugo's homeroom, last year's champion class. The homeroom games this year included a peanut butter and popcorn toss, a banana eating contest, a relay race, and a frozen T-shirt contest. In addition to spirit week, ASB sponsors other major events throughout the year including Carnival, the End-of-Year dance, and fundraisers.

Third Grade Visits George Key Ranch
On April 28th the third grade went to George Key Ranch and experienced something they weren't expecting. They went back  in  time.  Can you imagine no Xbox  and no TV, no fast food.  What did these people do?  Well, we found out.  All of us got to do chores. We washed clothes on a scrub board.  Hung them on a clothes line, and then we  beat rugs so they would be clean. After that we found out that these people took their baths in the kitchen.  The oldest person in the family would go first then by age everyone would get a turn.  All washed in the same water.  By the time the youngest got their turn that water didn't look so good.  We were kind of glad that we didn't live in the early 1900's, and we were happy to be going back to our time.  It was a really fun field trip. Anytime  you feel a need to see how lucky you are, you  can go back in time and visit George Key Ranch.

Pre-School and Kindergarten Nutrition Presentations
Leslie Kay, MSN, from Nutrition Management Services talked to our youngest students about the importance of good eating habits and nutritious foods.  They talked about the 'good colors' of foods and that natural foods can be 'fun'.  They talked about different ways to eat fruits and vegetables.  Everyone sampled red grapes and frozen green grapes!

4th Grade Return From Sacramento
"Wagons Ho!" to Sacramento!
"It was an amazing trip!" Candy Promprasert said soon after returning.

The 4th graders of Mrs. Howe and Miss del Carmen's class, joined by Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Lottes, spent two nights and three days visiting San Francisco and Sacramento.  Some of the tourist hot spots we  visited during our one-day tour of San Francisco were Pier 39, Chinatown, and the Exploratorium.

We spent the next two days in Old Sac, as well as visiting the Capitol Building, the Railroad Museum, Sutter's Fort, the Gold Bug Mine, and an old-time schoolhouse.

When asked about the trip, our students had a few things to say...

Athena P. said, "I enjoyed going to Pier 39 and it was really fun going down into the mines."
Huda K. stated, "My favorite part was going to the beautiful Capitol building."
Shreyas P. said, "My favorite part of the trip was panning for gold because I've never tried it before!"
Emin T. shared, "I liked when the zoo ladies had the ferret crawling all over them."
Aycia S. said, "The carriage ride around the city was fantastic!"
Megan T. stated, "I liked the boat ride around San Francisco Bay."

The fourth graders want to tell all the younger grades that going to on this trip is definitely something to look forward to!

ARTS & CRAFTS celebrating mama

From picking us up at school to getting stains out of our jeans to baking hundreds of cookies for our class parties, Mom is always there when you need her. Mother's Day is a wonderful opportunity to show her how much you care, and a handmade gift always means the most. Make mom's day with some of these creative craft ideas from Martha Stuart's Holidays

Surprise mom with breakfast in bed (maybe pancakes complete with a whipped cream and chocolate chip smiley face??) and decorate the tray with these long-lasting tissue paper posies

Sometimes the things our mamas do are front-page worthy. Make your mom this Sunday's headline by printing this newspaper template and filling in a picture and story!

We hope your Mother's Day is special! Feel free to comment with your own craft ideas for mom.
