Cougar Chorus Spring Concert
On Wed, April 13, the Cougar Chorus graced the stage with their beautiful singing. Cougar Chorus is for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who love to sing, and it is directed by our music specialist, Mrs. Zavoral. Students meet twice a week before school to practice in the music studio.

This season, the chorus worked on singing in 2 and 3 part harmony and blending with their sections to sound like one voice. At the concert, they performed a variety of music including a Spring Hymn, a Russian folk song, and the pop song "Soul Sister" by Train. It was clear that the audience loved the performance because they gave the chorus a standing ovation!

Drama Proceeds Benefit UNICEF
Thanks to the supporters of the performing arts, the drama department was able to make a substantial donation to UNICEF for their Tap Project campaign.  For every ticket sold to "Grease," $1 was set aside to provide clean water to children in desperate situations around the globe.  Thank you to each and every ticketholder for supporting the arts and a wonderful charity.  We are happy to extend Fairmont's support of UNICEF through the Trick-or-Treat program, the Tap Project, and the UNICEF Club at the Prep, who hosted an information table at the performances.  Our Fairmont theater fans are making a difference - not only on our campus, but worldwide!

Pointillism Art for Sale
Our beautiful pointillism art, in the style of George Seurat is for sale.  Parents may bid on the artwork by signing the Silent Auction bid sheet outside the art room through Friday, May 6.  All proceeds will go to support the art program.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. DuClos.

SHOW & TELL
Photo of the Week
Parents, students, teachers, and visitors enjoy the Enrollment Celebration Barbeque held on April 27

Enrollment Celebration BBQ
The Mable Campus was filled with excitement on Wednesday, April 27, as families and visitors enjoyed a picnic-style lunch with hot dogs and snacks. Families took time to visit with their children on the field, chatted with friends, and enjoyed a perfect spring day. The picnic was a wonderful opportunity to share our appreciation for the continued trust our families have in us, and we are extremely grateful to them for allowing us to achieve our enrollment goal. Many thanks also to the Fairmont Parent Association for providing delicious snow cones, and to Food Management for catering such tasty treats.

Boys Soccer
The JH Boys Soccer team just finished up a very successful season. They made it all the way to the semifinals of the Tri-Way League where they fell short to Anaheim Hills 2-0.It was a remarkable season for the boys because they finished with a record of 7-5 while playing with 10 players for 10 out of the 12 games. The defense was held together by goalie Nico Ament and defenders Matthew Tuinstra, Ejay Cho, Brando Padilla, and Nomin Park. They only gave up 9 goals in 12 games, which is a wonderful accomplishment. Through the midfield we were led by Shawn Cho, our playmaker, Alfred Mustafa, Justin Lee, Tarek Sahyoun, and Ken Li. Our leading goal scorer, Kareem Latif, tallied 16 goals for the season and was our engine during our play-off run. I have been coaching soccer for over 10 years, and I have not been more proud of a group of boys. Their heart and determination was second to none, and it was a true privilege to coach these young men.

Junior High Spirit Week
As the year begins to wind down, ASB events pick up. After a relaxing spring break, Junior High students jumped into the events of Spirit Week. ASB planned everything, and this year it was all about the movies. Each day, students competed to earn spirit points for their homeroom by dressing up to the according theme of that day. On Friday, April 29, homerooms competed against each other for a chance to steal the trophy from Mrs. Lugo's homeroom, last year's champion class. The homeroom games this year included a peanut butter and popcorn toss, a banana eating contest, a relay race, and a frozen T-shirt contest. In addition to spirit week, ASB sponsors other major events throughout the year including Carnival, the End-of-Year dance, and fundraisers.

The Perfect Season
Come, Come, feel the spring breeze!
Spring is here with helpful bees;
The warm rays take away the sadness
And fill you with joy and happiness;
Flowers fill the air with a lively scent
A butterfly proudly sucks the nectar as meant;
Lush green meadows and beautiful skies
With a wonderful and exciting surprise;
Chirping birds sing a melodious song
Spring is now gone, but not for long!

The cost of the package is $20, this includes the cap, gown, and 2011 tassel. Rental gowns are available at the cost of $12 and must be returned at the end of the ceremony. You may use a cap and gown of an older sibling that was used a previous year. A 2011 tassel may be purchased for the price of $5. Please notify the office if a rental gown or tassel is needed so we may have an accurate count of gowns for students.

Kindergarten graduation picture day will be Wednesday, May 4th on the Citron Campus patio. Students are required to wear the following:
Boys: White polo and navy pants
Girls: White blouse and plaid jumper

Order forms are available in the front office. Please return them with payment to the office no later than Monday, May 2nd. There will not be a picture make-up day for this session.

Muffins with Mommy
We would like our preschool moms to join on Friday, May 6th to a "Muffins with Mommy Social" in celebration of Mother's Day. It will begin at 9:30am, just after the flag salute and parent meeting, and finish at 10:30am.

If this is not your child's normal day to attend please feel free to bring him/her for the duration of the party. Although we would like to include the whole family, we are unable to accommodate more than our preschool students and their moms. Please make other arrangements for younger siblings so that you are able to spend time with your preschool child.

Please fill out the form sent home with your child if you are planning to attend. Return it to the front office no later than Wednesday, May 4th so we know how many preschool students and moms to count.
