SHORT STORY 14th annual choc toy run

Santa says thanks to Fairmont's "elves"!
Fairmont celebrated a beloved holiday tradition on Friday, Dec. 13 with the 14th annual CHOC Toy Run. Bikers from the Orange Coast Harley Owners Group (OCHOG) arrived at each of our campuses to pick up Fairmont's toy donations, meeting with students and teachers before revving up their Harleys and heading on their way.  Fairmont's donations will be delivered to CHOC hospital on Christmas Eve and will bring cheer to the children hospitalized at CHOC throughout the coming year.  Thank you to the entire Fairmont community for your generosity!
Mrs. Calabria gets in the spirit!

SHORT STORY summer takes flight

Every day this summer, Fairmont's Summer Program campers have been treated to fun, learning, and a few surprises--like when this dove found a friendly perch on an Anaheim Hills' camper's arm during a hands-on animal presentation!  We love that Fairmont's summer program keeps kids engaged all summer long with lessons that go beyond reading, writing and arithmetic to pique children's curiosity and get them thinking and engaging with one another.  As this article from Peg Smith of the American Camp Association illustrates, camp experiences teach 21st century skills like creativity and collaboration.  They "let kids be kids" and encourage getting dirty, playing outdoors, and free play.

Whatever your child is doing this summer, be sure to unplug and make play a part of every day!

SHORT STORY this is the place

As we wrap up the school year, we remember the moments that made it so special--the first day of school, winning the League Championship, making a new friend. We sign yearbooks and prepare for graduation ceremonies, and we enjoy our last few weeks with teachers and friends before saying so long for summer.

We invite you to celebrate the past year by watching the video above, a compilation of thoughts and memories from our students and parents!

SHORT STORY fairmont prep tec launch gala

On Thursday, March 28 Fairmont Preparatory Academy kicked off its Prep TEC (Technology-Enhanced Curriculum) Program with a special gala event. The evening began with a presentation by Dr. Matt Brandstetter about the components of the program and the importance of technology in education.

Next year, Fairmont Prep will have a 1:1 student iPad program and iPads will be incorporated into the curriculum in every subject. At the Gala, families were able to see the iPads in action by visiting classroom demonstrations around the gym

We were so pleased to have so many Fairmont families in attendance to see the technology integration in action. Thank you to everyone who joined!

SHORT STORY fairmont cheerleaders compete nationally

North Tustin Cheer Squad Takes 3rd Place in Nationals!

In late February, our North Tustin cheer team flew to Orlando Florida to participate in the National High School Cheerleading Championship in the Youth Recreational Category, sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association known as UCA.

The National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) is the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country. The NHSCC is held at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida, and nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 to over 100 million homes and 32 countries nationwide each year.

Our team, coached by Ms. Bradley and Mrs. Yujuico, did a phenomenal job. They took the stage in front of hundreds of people and displayed confidence and energy while delivering a great routine. The coaches knew that our team would be challenged when it came to the degree of difficulty in their routine. The message they gave the girls was to work towards their strengths and to connect with the crowd. They did exactly that and it resulted in a finish making them third in the nation in a pool of seven teams. Watching our team take command of the stage was inspiring. They had such a sharp performance that it was undeniable that they deserved to be among the top teams in their category!

Congratulations to the whole team and their coaches! Go Eagles!

This month, our Historic Anaheim 7th Graders had the adventure of a lifetime journeying to Zion, Bryce, the Grand Canyon, and Sedona for Travel Week!

The students enjoyed learning about nature during incredible hikes in Bryce.

Our So Cal natives loved experiencing true winter weather and seeing snow on the mountains.

Excitement was in the air on the day of our visit to the Grand Canyon!

The views were stunning!

We marveled at the beauty while enjoying a peaceful lunch in the canyon.

SHORT STORY endeavour visits Fairmont

Students at our Historic Anaheim Campus took a break from classroom studies today to witness a moment of American history when the Space Shuttle Endeavour flew over our campus on its way home to Los Angeles.

Waiting patiently...one of our Kindergarteners asked Mrs. Calabria
if we would all be going to outer space with Endeavour. So cute! :)

Mrs. Baham, Science Teacher, using her classroom iPad
to check in on Endeavour's progress towards campus

I think I see it!

 Where?

 Endeavour atop a Boeing 747

Endeavour was cheered on by all of our K-8 students as it flew directly over
the play field at our Historic Anaheim Campus--and if you don't believe us, you'll just have to watch this video for yourself!

Excitement!

Elation...

(Many thanks to Senor G, Ms. Sarah, and Mr. Ed for the photos and videos)

SHORT STORY anaheim hills 8th grade promotion

Today we said goodbye to our Anaheim Hills 8th graders in a beautiful Promotion Ceremony on campus. All of the students were dressed in their very best to celebrate with teachers, administrators, family, and friends.

Fairmont President Mr. David Jackson addressed the crowd and congratulated the students on their accomplishments. He shook each student's hand as they came up on stage to receive their certificates.

The class gift was a $500 donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of 8th grade classmate, Shelby K. (shown above). Shelby has attended Fairmont since pre-school and was diagnosed at 2 ½ with Cystic Fibrosis.  Fairmont CEO Rob Chandler matched the $500 gift for a $1000 donation to Team Shelby USA. Shelby was honored by the donation and support from her classmates and school. The presentation was a very special moment for all.

Congratulations Fairmont Anaheim Hills Class of 2012! We wish you all the best in high school!

SHORT STORY writing workshop

On Tuesday, June 5, author/illustrator Troy Howell visited Fairmont's Anaheim Hills campus for a series of events to celebrate the grand opening of the new library including this writing workshop with Mr. Bloomingdale's fifth graders. Students collaborated on a story about an orphaned narwhal named "Lahwrah" (narwhal in reverse) dealing with an identity crisis. Best seller material?  Maybe!
