SHORT STORY author/illustrator headed to fairmont

What does an ancient dragon, the Wild West and Fairmont's Anaheim Hills library have in common? Answer: They will all collide on Tuesday, June 5 from 6-7:30pm for the Anaheim Hills Library Grand Opening. Author/illustrator Troy Howell will be meeting with students during the day offering tips and inspiration from his career as an author and illustrator. As part of the Grand Opening celebration, he will be giving an interactive reading of his book The Dragon of Cripple Creek and signing books. Troy is an old classmate and friend of third grade teacher Denise Carroll and we're super excited that she was able to help us connect with this wonderful author/illustrator.

You're invited to join in the festivities! Let us know you're coming by RSVPing here

SHORT STORY happy birthday dr. suess

Friday, March 2nd is a special day indeed
Especially for those kids who especially love to read!
It's the birthday, you see
Of one masterful he
Who weaved rhymes into tales
About loraxes and whales!
Dr. Suess, of course, is the man we speak of
For whom we all have lots of love.
Our preschoolers helped celebrate his birthday
In an extra special, bookish way!

SHORT STORY 100th day of school

Today is the 100th Day of the School Year! Per tradition, the Kindergartners at our Anaheim Hills Campus are celebrating by sporting their unique "100 Things" T-Shirts. From bugs to eyes to bows to bling, every year the students get super creative thinking up ways to fit 100 things on a t-shirt. Making the tee gives them lots of time to practice counting too!

SHORT STORY groundhog's day

Fairmont Citron students learned about Groundhog's Day and made their own groundhogs!
Did the groundhog see his shadow?? Yes! According to the Washington Post, "At 7:25 a.m. this morning, amidst mostly cloudy skies, and temperatures in the low 30s, Groundhog Phil saw his shadow in the little town of Punxsutawney, Pa. According to folklore, Phil’s sighting of his own shadow means there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Had Phil not seen his shadow, it would have meant 'there will be an early spring.'"

Considering we've seen temperatures in the 70's and 80's this "winter" here in Orange County...our students aren't too concerned about those extra weeks.

SHORT STORY celebrate international dinosaur month

Did you know? The first dinosaur fossil ever found on the West Coast of North America was found accidentally on Irvine Ranch, in 1927.  It was a duck-billed dinosaur or Hadrosaur (pictured above).  Have any dinosaurs in your backyard?

SHORT STORY grandpa jackson

In honor of Grandparents Day, we wanted to celebrate one of our favorite grandpas: Mr. Jackson, the President of Fairmont. Outside of work Mr. Jackson is a dedicated father and grandfather. He treasures spending time with his grandkids and making quality memories, like building paper castles and jumping on the trampoline. We love his favorite grandparent tradition:
"Each year before Christmas we take each of our grandchildren shopping with half of the money we use to spend on them for Christmas presents, and they pick out toys for children who won't have a Christmas. It is the highlight of the year when we have the grandkids present these gifts, that would have been theirs, to disadvantaged children. There are always many tears of joy."
Happy Grandparent's Day from the Fairmont Family to yours!
