TEACHER'S PET mia and macy

These are our dogs Mia and Macy! They love to get in the sheets right out of the dryer and bury themselves. Gia named Mia (the one in the back). She is our newest addition. Both dogs are very lovable and Gia plays with them constantly. The picture below is of Mia behind my computer. I got lucky and had the camera ready. The dogs like to sit on my lap and climb on the desk while I work. It makes it hard to get anything done when you have such a cutie on the other side of the monitor!

Want your pet to be featured as next month's Teacher's Pet? Simply e-mail a photo and brief description of your pet to Alyssa at amihm@fairmontschools.com by March 9th! We look forward to your submissions!

TEACHER'S PET molly the jindo mix

Molly is a 1-year old Jindo mix. She is a rescue from the Pasadena Humane Society. Her favorite activities are going on walks, running around in circles, destroying toys that we buy her, and sitting at my feet, demanding love. Thoroughly spoiled, she knows COME, SIT, and HIGH-FIVE. We are currently working on FETCH and MAKE LATTE.

Congratulations to Raffle Winners
This week in celebration of those families who took advantage of priority registration two students' names were chosen for  "Director for a Day" at Wednesday's Flag Salute.  Daphne S. won for the grades 2-3 category, and Brianna D. won for the grades 4-5 category.  Next year, the girls will have a day in which they take over Mrs. Calabria's office and experience what it is like to run the school. After having had a chance to test drive the director's chair, they started to think of ideas for their special day. (Hmmm...do you think they will grant free dress or plan some other fun activity?)  During next week's Junior High Assembly, another lucky student will be chosen to represent grades 5-7. It's not too late to submit your re-enrollment contract to be eligible for this drawing on Thursday.

Also during the Parent Association Meeting on March 10, another drawing was held for a month of reserved parking. The names of nine children were drawn, one per month for the months of September 2011 through May 2012.  Their parents will enjoy their own parking space for a month. Mrs. Leyson was present at the meeting and shared her "happy dance" when she received the news.  All families that submit their re-enrollment contracts by next parent meeting will be eligible to win a free week of summer camp.

Winners of Reserved Parking Space for the 2011-2012 School Year:
September:  Sydney Garabedian
October:  Nishtha Arya
November: Patricia Martinez
December:  Rowan Leyson
January: Girish Bawa
February: Michelle Phan
March: Kenneth Eun

Congratulations to all our winners!

1st Graders Learn About Tibet

Kalden's mom delighted the first graders with a very exciting presentation on Tibet.  We learned about Mt. Everest, traditional dress and foods (Kalden and his mom wore traditional clotese), the Tibetan New Year, Losar, and cultural decorations.  We also learned that milk in Tibet comes from a yak!!  We ended the presentation with a delicious treat called Khapsey, which we compared to a kind of cookie.  Many thanks to the Blair family for their time and for educating us on Tibet!
