FRIDAY FOLDER anaheim hills campus december 10

SHOW & TELL
On the Anaheim Hills Campus this week, we finished the final prizes for the magazine drive with the Kona Hawaiian Ice truck!  It was very yummy with frosty snow cones and lots of flavors!  Best of all it was a wonderful hot December day in Southern California!

Our Tri-Way Basketball teams had two games this week and the boys and girls teams won both of the games!!  On Tuesday the Cougars beat Pegasus 35-14 and the Lady Cougars won 36-14!  On Thursday the boys team won against Oakridge 39-20, and the girls team won 32-18.  The girl’s team is now 3-0 and the boys are 2-1.  Come out and watch them play against Mable campus on Wednesday, December 15.

The Kindergarteners went to Plummer Auditorium to see “The Elves and the Shoemaker” and had a great time watching this funny play.  They love going on field trips, riding the bus, and having lunch at the park!

The Orange County Harley Owners roared onto the Anaheim Hills Campus on Friday morning, much to the delight of all our students.  This is the 11th year that Fairmont has partnered with the Harley owners to bring toys to CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County).  All of our students donate toys to CHOC for other children that are hospitalized over the holidays, or other times during the year.  Santa also comes for a hug for everyone and to bring candy canes to all!

The Faculty and Staff of the Anaheim Hills Campus wish you a safe, peaceful and happy holiday season!

SHOW & TELL
JK to Centennial Farms
On Tuesday, December 7th the two Jr. Kindergarten classes went on an adventure to Centennial Farms in Costa Mesa.  Upon arrival at the farm our groups met our farmer tour guides.  For many of our students who live in urban areas, seeing live animals and vegetables was a huge adventure.  We watched two cows being milked; the students were mesmerized seeing the white milk enter the milking machine.  We learned about many plants that grow on the farms that we eat; celery, carrots, lettuce.  We saw sugar cane plants and oats growing, but the students didn't believe that either green plant had anything to do with their breakfast.  After petting pigs, sheep, and goats we all planted a couple of radish seeds.  The highlight of the trip was that after learning about the life cycle of chickens, each student had the opportunity to hold a baby chick.  We learned how to put our thumb gently on the chick's back so it did not wiggle away.  How fun!  After eating our lunches in a beautiful, sunny picnic area, we loaded back onto the bus for home.  What a great day!  Centennial Farms is open to the public.  Check out their open times on-line and take your whole family on a fun adventure.

SHOW & TELL
Message from the Director
Dear Citron Parents,
I want to take this opportunity on behalf of the faculty and staff of the Citron Campus to wish you all a wonderful holiday season.  As we enter this time of giving it is important for our students to realize there are a lot of people in this world that need help.  Moms and Dads often struggle with how best to instill compassion in their children and the importance of giving back.  Below are a few suggestions to expose them to the idea of giving.
•    Have your child accompany you while you pick up the mail for a neighbor who is sick, or out of town.
•    Make holiday cards for children who are sick in the hospital.
•    Bake cookies and deliver them to a neighbor.
•    Donate one item off a Christmas Wish list to a less fortunate child.
•    There are many families who will not have the opportunity to celebrate this holiday.  Your family can make a difference by delivering a tree, providing dinner, or assembling care packages.

We thank you for your generosity and continued support of our campus.
Rae Douglas
Director – Citron Campus.

SCOREBOARD game highlights: mable girls basketball vs. edgewood

Mable Tri-Way Girls Basketball vs. Edgewood Eagles
December 2, 2010

Final Score: Mable 25-Edgewood 8
The Junior High Panthers closed out their first week of basketball with a win against the Edgewood Eagles. Point guard Sheryne N. led the team with 9 points and 3 steals. All the girls played well and we saw some points from a newcomer to the game, Lauren H who contributed 2 points, 2 steals and several rebounds. Madi N., and Liza M. also helped on defense by pressuring the ball handlers and converting turnovers into points.

This was a great game that showed the girls on the team exactly what they could do on the court. Our next game will be against Carden Hall on Tuesday, December 7th.

 SHOW & TELL
Honor Roll Assembly
Busy week on campus!  We started Monday off with an Honor Roll Assembly for 4th and 5th Grade and then an assembly for the Junior High.  We honor those students that have successfully achieved a 3.5-3.9 with the Honor Roll certificate and the students that achieved a 4.0 with the Directors Honor Roll certificate.  These students work extremely hard and enjoy being recognized for their success.
Fourth Grade Field Trip
On Tuesday the Fourth Grade went to the San Juan Mission in San Juan Capistrano.  This is a wonderful curriculum based trip for our students as they study the history of California in Fourth Grade. They began their visit by learning how the Spanish taught the local Native Americans how to speed up the process of making rope. Afterward, the students were broken up into groups and they had the opportunity to make rope.   The remainder of the field trip was spent with a docent who explained many historical facts as we toured the mission.  As always, the mission staff was impressed by the knowledge that our students displayed.

Basketball Season Has Arrived!
Our Tri-Way Basketball season kicked off versus the Edgewood Eagles.  Our girls (the defending Tri-Way Champs!) defeated the girl’s team 46-6, and the boys lost 38-28.
Santa Train
On Tuesday evening the FPA-sponsored Santa Train was a huge success!  Families and kids had a great time. Thank you so very much to the FPA for sponsoring this wonderful family night event!  The Irvine Regional Park was covered in twinkling lights and Mrs. Claus read stories, as the kids bounced in bounce houses and everyone had delicious hot chocolate!  When you board the train you were whisked off to the "North Pole" to visit a very delightful Santa!  It was a wonderful wintery way to kick-off this holiday season with your family.
Winter Sing-A-Long
On Wednesday, the entire campus from Pre-School to Junior High participated in the “Winter Sing-Along!"  It was a blast and each grade sang a song for the rest of the school.  All of the students enjoyed singing for everyone else and then loved watching the other students perform their songs.  We had Hawaiian holiday songs, “All I Want For Christmas is My Front Two Teeth”, “I Saw Grandma Kissing a Reindeer” “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and many other fun songs.  The event was closed with a song about Peace for everyone.

Second Grade Field Trip
On Thursday, the Second Grade went to Indian Trails at Knott’s Berry Farm.  They had a great time learning about Native American Indians, visiting a tepee, watching a traditional Indian dance and making a friendship bracelet.

Pre-School Winter Musical
Friday was the wonderful Pre-School Winter Musical!  Our Pre-Schoolers have been practicing their songs every day for 2 weeks and they were precious and amazing!  The boys and girls were all dressed up and so cute!!  There were reindeer, top hats and scarves, and lots of smiles!

The Kindergarten celebrated the book “The Polar Express” with a party!  They all watched the Polar Express movie and drank hot chocolate and wore jingle bells, while they wore their pajamas!

CHOC/Harley Toy Drive Ends on December 10th!!
The spirit of the season is underway and it's time for the 11th Annual Toy Drive!  The Anaheim Hills campus is collecting new and unwrapped toys for CHOC.
The toys donated during the holidays are given year-round to CHOC patients who often spend weeks or months at the hospital.  The toys are used as therapeutic play to help our patients adjust to their hospitalization.  Toys are also given to patients undergoing major surgery or a painful procedure, whether it is in the hospital, or the Emergency Department or in one of the many clinics CHOC operates.
The Orange County Chapter of Harley Davidson Owners ride their motorcycles to the Anaheim Hills Campus on Friday, December 10 to pick up all the toys and our students love hearing the roaring of up to 100 'Harleys' pull into the school...it is very exciting!

Spread Charity This Winter
We are collecting gently used items for the homeless.
Blankets, Coats, Sleeping Bags, Hats/Beanies/Mittens
Kiernan & Camden Holt are gathering items for the Homeless.  They plan on distributing the items gathered every Saturday until Christmas.  Go through your closets & drawers and find the items you don't use anymore.  Help keep the homeless warm during the cold nights.
Children's items will be donated to the Women's & Children's Center in Corona.  All other items will be distributed to the homeless of Riverside.
Place all donations in the BROWN Marked Box located by Vicky Mantell's Office.
