FRIDAY FOLDER mable campus september 10

SHOW & TELL

The Book Fair is Coming!
Usually when we hear "book fair," we think of the winter holidays fast approaching. But this year, our semi-annual Scholastic Book Fair is happening in September. The Mable Campus Scholastic Book Fair opens in the gym on Saturday, September 18th, during the Back to School Picnic sponsored by our Parent Association. We will be open on Saturday from 12-3 pm and during the following week from Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 4 pm. We close the book fair on Thursday, September 23rd. The Book Fair will be located in the gym the entire time.

We will have a great selection of books and other items. Students will be able to visit the book fair during the day and sometimes visit with their homeroom class. There is also a classroom Wish List if you want to buy a book for a teacher's classrom.

Great news! During the book fair, we will be taking pre-orders for the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid series scheduled to be released in November!

Why do we have book fairs? There are two basic reasons - books support literacy in our students, and the profits we earn are used to add more books to our library. It's a win-win situation for all! We deeply appreciate your support.

Mable Campus Gets a New Look
2010 marks the 100th birthday of what we call "the house"--once home to the Carroll Family, and now hub of our Mable Campus. This summer, Fairmont celebrated by renovating the home and other campus facilities. The project included exterior paint, landscaping, signage, fencing and a remodel of the main office building. A combination of vintage and modern aesthetics was chosen for the project to both pay homage to the original architecture, and the 57-year legacy of the Mable Campus, as well as to reflect the fresh and modern perspective of today's learners and educators.

In keeping with Mable's green initiative, over 90% of the furnishings were sourced or built locally with the help of Caren Ureda and Vicky Pape, proprietors of Top Drawer Design, a local residential and commercial design firm. The entire project is due to be completed by mid-October-painting of the gym and other projects will continue with no impact on students or school operations.

Looking pretty good for one hundred! Wink!
