SHOW & TELL
Giving Service
On December 16, the Mable Campus Orchestra performed for the residents of the Villa Valencia retirement community in Laguna Hills.  After concluding their music pieces, students greeted the guests, shook their hands, and spoke with them individually.  Highlights of the day included one woman, with tears in her eyes, who told Mrs. Stella that she was a former music teacher and that she loved watching our kids play.  The former teacher still plays her flute and looked forward to performing in a holiday concert the following day.  Another woman said "Anyone who missed this concert missed something GREAT."  She then asked if the group had a "record" she could buy.

Everyone in the orchestra was touched that the performance meant so much to their audience.  It was evident that the senior residents were remembering earlier times as they listened. The experience truly filled the students with the holiday spirit-so much so that everyone on the bus sang holiday songs all the way back to school. Mrs. Stella was so proud of the performers who displayed such poise and maturity.

On Wednesday, January 5, Mable junior high students volunteered their time at the Community Action Partnership of Orange County warehouse, Orange County's food bank, to help pack boxes for seniors in Orange County.  Helpers at the center first gave the students an overview of the program, then the students were split into groups.  Each group was designated a job.  Every box that the students assembled goes to an Orange County senior citizen in need, and it contains items such as canned food, dry milk, rice, fruit juices, cereal, and other items. Students filled the boxes in a precise arrangement along conveyors.  The sealed boxes, weighing about 20 lbs., were stacked in pallets of 40, then forklifted to the warehouse transportation area for delivery.  In a record-setting performance, our junior high students packed over 2,300 boxes!  Mable students did a great job, which was praised by the CAPOC staff.  Junior high students must fulfill 24 hours of community service to graduate.  Hours volunteering at the center counted toward their community service requirement.

The Mable Campus is also very proud of alumni Mark A., Surbhi B., Christopher T. and Megan R. who are spending their Preparatory Academy Travel Week in New Orleans rebuilding a school ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.  The Mable Campus is very honored to see the maturity and spirit of service that our students display each and every day.

2nd Grade Study Trip: The Elves and the Shoemaker
Our second grade students had the opportunity to see "The Elves and the Shoemaker" last Thursday.  We enjoyed watching live theater and seeing all the characters come to life. The actors were awesome!  The play reminded us about the importance of giving and helping others.   After the play, the second graders enjoyed a picnic lunch at a nearby park and some fun playtime with friends.
